At the market
To celebrate our recent move to a new arch in deepest, darkest Bermondsey we’ve created a new cheese called Bermondsey Spa. It’s made using Golden Cenarth which we wash three times a week in a pale ale from our neighbours at the Kernel Brewery Lucky little cheeses.
The beer encourages brevi bacteria on the rind resulting in a peachy gold exterior and an oozing rich interior. A perfect friend for a picnic it also works a treat baked whole in its box with crusty sough dough toast and a chilled glass of Reisling.
We’re selling the cheese at North Cross Roadmarket, on-line www.mootown.co.uk go (go to individual cheeses – soft) and next weekend at the Cheese and Wine Festival, Southbank – details below.
A French guest – Ossau Iraty
To kick start the glorious summer, we’ll be introducing a new cheese each month starting in May with Ossau Iraty from our cheese-mongering friends atMons. Hailing from Helltte in the Basque country (SW France) the hard cheese is made with raw sheeps’ milk and is another wonder from the western fringes. Pop down to give it a try.
What makes the best cheese on toast?
We’re not quite sure as yet but will be putting it to the test at the Great Exhibition pub (SE22) on Monday 30th of April with a variety of breads and toasted cheeses. Your verdict will determine the winner and we’ll also be putting it to the test at North Cross Road on May 26th
